It's a no (whey) for me dog! Let's talk plant-based protein.

Gone are the days of jacked guys in their “suns out guns out” tank tops with their shaker bottles when you think of protein. We’re making protein approachable and fun for everyone!

We all know how important protein is to give us energy, for recovery post-workout and to help build lean muscle. You're probably thinking, can eating a plant-based diet actually taste good? Can I still get the amount of protein that I need? The answer to both is yes. Our proprietary protein blend contains 14g of plant-protein and together creates a complete amino acid profile that also delivers a wide variety of other fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants (*mic drop*).

Here's the scoop on our protein blend:

  • Pea: We love pea because it's an easy-to-digest protein that is packed with BCAAs and also contains ghrelin, a hunger suppressing hormone. Bonus points: peas are also great for our earth because of their small environmental footprint.
  • Chia: Chia seeds were an important addition to our protein blend given the protein, minerals and antioxidants that they pack along with a healthy helping of omega-3's. It's no wonder chia was the ancient Mayan word for strength with all of the power these little guys pack.
  • Cacao: Just saying the word cacao makes us happy. This protein-packed superfood is rich in iron and also contains anandamide, known as the "bliss molecule." Cacao is also one of the richest sources of flavanols which are free radical fighting agents which have been linked to lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • Hemp: We added hemp into our protein blend for its rich source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, along with gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) which has been linked to a host of health benefits. Combine this with the wide number of vitamins and minerals it supplies and you've got yourself a power-packed protein.

When it comes to how much protein you should be consuming everyday, the recommended minimum daily protein allowance needed for a sedentary person is a third of your body weight (lbs) in grams of protein, but do what feels right for you. This is not one-size-fits-all people! Timing is also important when it comes to protein, doctors suggest you consume between 10-20 grams of protein immediately following a workout. It doesn't need to be complicated, just listen to your body and you do you!
