Morning Routine with Kira from @cactiwellness

Ready to wake up on the right side of the bed every day? With the right a.m. rituals in place, you'll be ready to take on and embrace each day ahead. The benefits of creating a morning routine are endless, and the smallest changes can make the biggest difference (especially in times like these). So, here are some tips from Kira Jones, Founder of Cacti Wellness Collective, to inspire you to start off 2021 like a damn boss and set yourself up for success!


I’ve always been an advocate for a morning routine, but over the last few months, it’s been especially crazy to watch how drastically it can change both my mood and mental sharpness. One of my favorite quotes says “the secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine," and as we wrap up the year & head into 2021, there’s no better time to adjust our habits and shape our future into something we’re proud of. 


Especially during the holiday season, I know it can be overwhelming to stay on routine. So, if you’re looking for a good place to start, I’m here to break down the 5 habits I practice each morning to increase my energy and set me up for success.


  1. H20: Hydration is a must! 100 oz of water per day is the goal, and within the first hour of waking, I try to consume at least 36 oz. Drinking water literally hydrates your cells (including your BRAIN cells!), so it’s no wonder it makes you feel more alert and energized.

  2. MOVEMENT: Whether it’s a quick stretch, a walk with my dog, or a full on at-home workout (from Cacti Wellness Collective), I prioritize moving my body! It wakes me up and sets off those positive endorphins :)

  3. BRAIN FUEL: Aside from water, I always like to start the day with something that will give me a little bit of extra fuel, but is still light enough to not make me sluggish. That’s where Après comes in. I usually reach for the Vanilla Bean or Mint Chocolate flavor & it does the trick, whether I’m finishing a workout or just having a little afternoon pick me up.

  4. MINDFUL MOMENT: Most people refer to this as meditation/journaling, but I like to call it my mindful moment :) This changes slightly from day to day, but I always take about ten minutes to write down what I’m grateful for, read something inspirational (I like “The Daily Stoic”), & do some deep breathing or meditation.

  5. TOP 5 GOALS: The last thing I do before beginning my work day is write down my “MUST DOs”. I keep this list to 5 things (even if they involve a lot of little sub-tasks), but the shorter list helps me tackle the most important things first & batch them into my schedule appropriately.


Although these steps might seem like a lot if you don’t already have a morning routine in place, you can likely knock all of this out within 30 minutes! Pro Tip: It’s key to keep your phone on airplane mode until you’ve completed your morning routine & you’ll get major bonus points if you can get your movement & meditation done in fresh air & direct sunlight :)
