The New Year presents such a powerful opportunity for setting new goals and intentions. Following the revelry and indulging nature of the holidays, I am motivated and ready to get clear on what I personally want out of the year to come. Coming off weeks of focusing on everyone but myself (gift giving, massive amounts of cooking, cleaning and normally little to no exercise), it's the jumpstart I need to return to giving back to my body and prioritizing me. I have in the past, however, gone too far and demanded too much of myself in setting lofty goals and expectations.
I've struggled with sticking to my resolutions the last couple of years.Last year for instance, I started off January motivated to get back in the gym 6x per week, never eat a piece of bread again (yeah right!) and reorganize all of my closets at home. Sounds nice on paper but I found myself halfway through January, completely exhausted, eating a piece of sourdough on my closet floor, condemning myself for not even making it halfway. Sound familiar?
We often overcommit the first of the year only to find ourselves so overwhelmed that we give up altogether. So I've decided to change things up this January and would love to have you join me. I think there is true magic in making resolutions if we take time to focus on ourselves and what our bodies and souls really need.
This year, we are doing it *without* the crazy pressure or guilt. Together let's commit to doing little things each day to make for a healthier and happier January. Because it's the smaller steps that add up and move us towards our loftier goals. Here's how the January Challenge will work:
- You'll hear from me every Monday morning in January with a suggested list of ways give back to you. Think things like: epsom salt baths, buying yourself fresh flowers, 30 minute walks at lunch or workout classes with your best friend. Small activities that will empower you on a deeper level.
- Commit to 5 activities each week. You can use my suggestions or come up with your own! I'll email new suggestions every Monday morning.
- Share your journey with me via Instagram @drinkapres with #ownyourafter.
