Everything we do here at Après is centered around giving back to your body. We don't believe in strict diets or that you should sacrifice on life's pleasures for washboard abs. It's not our style. We believe in giving back to your body in a pure and wholesale way with the right food, exercise, and self care so that you can own whatever comes next. That's why we fell in love with personal trainer MaryKate Schmidt from @froyotofitness.
MaryKate has a real girl perspective when it comes to her fitness programs. It's all about a fast, but effective, way to sweat that won't keep you from meetings or your social life. That's why we are so excited to share a 30 minute full body workout directly from her fitness challenge. It's easy to fit in at lunchtime, before work or pre-cuddle on your couch with Netflix. Enjoy!
Take us through a typical day of eating ask MaryKate Schmidt (AKA @froyotofitness)
Haha you might be here awhile because sometimes I feel all I do is eat!! JK kinda! But seriously here's a typical day:
Breakfast - 4 egg whites, chicken sausage, fruit
Snack 1 - apple and almond butter
Lunch - grilled chicken/veggies
Snack 2 - A smoothie with protein powder, frozen cauliflower, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. If I don't have time for a smoothie then it's definitely an Après!
Dinner - ground turkey with sweet potatoes and all the veggies or cauliflower gnocchi with ground turkey and vegan pesto
Snack 3 - if needed dark chocolate which honestly it's almost always needed ;)
What made you change your diet and lifestyle to be more health conscious? Was there a specific moment or were you always focused on living a healthy lifestyle?
Ever since I was a little girl I've always wanted to be fit -- I was your typical YOYO-er always bouncing from one diet to the next or being super strict then bingeing, time after time. I was a Division 1 athlete, so training was part of my daily life, but diet was always so hard for me -- I just love sweets! I finally made a lifestyle change at 23 when I was sick of feeling bad about myself all the time and doing the same things over over expecting a different result. I started Kayla Itsines BBG program then and took baby steps in my diet, which ultimately led to big results. I've learned finding alternatives to your favorite things and not depriving are the keys to success.
You work full time and run @froyotofitness, that's insane! How do you fit it all in?
Oh boy! For awhile sleep was optional! Between managing my doctors, patients, etc and fitting in my own work outs and everything that it takes to run a business was/is definitely tough! I LOVE it so much that it honestly doesn't feel like work. I've learned that I say no a lot more to things but I don't have too much fomo because I am so passionate about FTF. I used to laugh at people when they said find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life -- but now I am living and breathing that every day!
Long winded answer, but the biggest thing is definitely time management, learning to say no, outsource the things you are not good at, and be persistent with your passion!
We are big podcast fans and love to snuggle up with a good book when we can. Anything you've listened to or read recently that's had a major impact on you? Anything that's a "must read"?
I love this question! I am obsessed with the "How I Built This" podcast -- it honestly lights a fire in me daily and gets me so excited about my business. Also, the 4 Hour Work Week is a good go to!
